MAC Chili, Chili x Toasted Brown, Maybelline Toasted Brown

MAC Chili x Maybelline Toasted Brown | How I kept myself from buying MAC Marrakesh

It was love at first sight when I saw a swatch of MAC Marrakesh online. I thought it was the perfect burnt terracotta orange red brown shade. I wanted Marrakesh so much, I thought it’s gonna be the makeup item to break my No Buy rule of “replacements only”. I still had Chili, a matte lipstick in the same color family, but less brown, more orange, and much brighter. The latter is why I don’t pick it up as much — I wish it was more muted. So I layered Maybelline Toasted Brown over Chili to mute it down. It’s…

No Buy

No-Buy 2019 | January Update

I’m doing good with my replacement only no-buy. I was so tempted but I am able to resist getting Kosas Tinted Face Oil. I make my own by mixing a rice grain-sized amount of Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer with a drop of Kiehl’s Daily Recovery Concentrate (Oil) to scratch the itch. I bought 2 skincare products this month to replace what I used up: Timeless Vitamin C Serum to replace Purito Vitamin C Serum (emptied), The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (gave away), and The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin (gave away) — P 1,235.00 Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (100 ml) to replace…

I wasn’t able to make the most of NARS Audacious Brigitte, the last Audacious in my lipstick stash. When I checked all my lipsticks for viability several days ago, I found my tube of Brigitte smelling (mildly) like rancid cooking oil. That said, the texture and color is the same as when I got it. On the NARS website, Brigitte is described as nude rose. I don’t detect any nude or rose to be honest. I would describe the shade medium pink coral. It doesn’t suit my light-medium yellow olive skin tone when applied full-coverage — I think it ages…

Skincare Samples

Declutter Diary: Skincare Samples

Last weekend I went through my stuff to collect skincare samples and I threw them all away. I wish I took a photo of everything but I forgot. Above are some of the samples I had. I decided not to give them away because most (if not all) samples have shorter shelf-lives compared to their full size counterparts. Samples usually don’t have the expiration date printed on the label too. From now on, I’ll either use samples as soon as I get them or I’ll just decline them. The number of purchases I made from the samples I tried is…
