Warm colors usually don’t suit me. Most browns age me while oranges (including peaches and corals) dim my skin.
I did find warm colors that kind of work on me. But I noticed that I haven’t been picking them up. I think it has something to do with these type of colors not being able to lift up my mood. Anyway, I did an inventory of them to decide which ones I would keep.
Here they are, in no particular order…
Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Warm Beige
Bobbi Brown describes this lipstick as a pink brown, which I typically would like. So when my sister-in-law called and asked which creamy matte lipsticks I’d like her to pick up for me (she lives near a cosmetics outlet store), I asked for Warm Beige along with a few other colors.
Unfortunately, Warm Beige is not pink brown. It’s more like a brown with red tones — a darker and less rusty MAC Taupe.
It’s actually not that bad against my skin tone. It just doesn’t make me look and, more importantly, feel happy. I don’t know how else to describe it.
I could keep it just so I can have a 90’s lip color on hand but I’ve never really been about makeup trends so this is a toss.
NARS Audacious Jane
NARS Jane is an orange claypot color — a muted medium orange with tones of red and brown. I’ve never seen any other lipstick color like it.
I like wearing it more when I blot the shine off. When it’s matte, the color changes to something a little less rusty. I haven’t been wearing it because it’s not the type of lipstick I can wear without anything else and I’ve been extra-lazy with makeup the past recent months. It needs a face with a lot of contrast (eyeliner, eyebrows, and blush). It’s not for days when my heart has already eaten all of my energy.
I’m keeping it, for now. But I’ll tally the number of uses I get in the next few weeks and reevaluate.
Make Up For Ever Rouge Intense Mat 3 – Matte Caramel
If Bobbi Brown Warm Beige and NARS Jane had a child, it would be MUFE Matte Caramel
On me, Matte Caramel is a light-ish medium brown with orange and red tones.
I love how I don’t need to blot it to look matte. But, I hate that it doesn’t really do much for me on its own. While it’s not unflattering, it’s also not brightening. It also smells like old school lipstick.
It’s a lipstick I would wear if I want something else on my face to take the spotlight.
This is a toss for me. It sucks because this is my favorite bone-dry matte lipstick formula and the only one I own of MUFE’s matte lipstick line. I guess that’s an excuse to try out the other bolder colors now.
In2It Long Lasting Creamy Matte Lipstick in Sepia
This lipstick is not long lasting and is also NOT MATTE.
I love the color. This is one of the many iterations that I hoped MAC Taupe would be. It’s 65% brick red, 35% brown. How I got the percentages, I don’t know.
I would stick with this if it’s blottable. Unfortunately, this is how it looks like when I blot the shine off:
My lips are definitely mattified — because there’s no more lipstick on my lips!!!
This is a toss.
Happy Skin Lippie Stick Honeymoon Glow
I’m not quite sure how to describe this color. It looks different on many people’s faces. On me, it looks like a muted brownish coral-toned pink.
I like that the lipstick is opaque and semi-matte (blottable to matte). I thought I liked the color, but I think I only liked it because it’s one of the few corals that look ok on me. Problem is, I don’t get ‘lipstick feels’ from it. I also don’t like coral tones in my MLBB lipsticks. I usually go for mauves if I want natural-looking lips. Coral, on me, is NOT natural.
If it leaned a little more tangerine, like the color of the packaging, I might’ve loved it.
This is a toss.
MAC Toledo Oxblood
MAC accurately describes this a light peachy nude.
It swatches a little bit darker on my forearms, but on my lips, it’s pale AF.
But it works surprisingly, even when I’m only wearing a subtly applied blush and an eyeliner.
Verdict: Keep for now. The lighter colors in the MAC matte lipstick line do not look very flattering on my lips. Until such time that I find a pale nude lipstick that I really, really like, I’m not letting it go.
NEXT: Red Lipstick Collection
I wonder, if you own these lipsticks, which ones are your keeps?
