Finally, I own something by Fenty Beauty! Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle in Freckle Fiesta was my last purchase in 2017.
I love Riri but I didn’t want to buy anything from Fenty Beauty just because Rih (close kame!?) has her name on it. I waited for her to come out with a matte lipstick in a relatively wearable shade I like.
Freckle Fiesta is a medium terracotta-toned orange. The color is more vibrant than I thought it would be but nowhere near as bright as MAC Lady Danger. It’s still somewhat muted.
The lipstick is full-coverage, lightweight, and has a thin consistency. It’s not flat matte like matte liquid lipsticks or MAC Retro Matte. It has a little bit of a sheen that’s easy to blot off if you prefer a dry flat finish. It applies evenly and doesn’t tug. It doesn’t have a scent 🙌🏼 hallelujah!!!
The bullet is thin, similar to NARS Pure Matte. Think: diameter of a cigarette. The tube only has 1.7 grams of product (Note: NARS pure matte has 2 grams, MAC’s standard bullets has 3 grams).
The lipstick doesn’t fade evenly after a meal. It left me with a lip ring, but because of how pigmented it is, you can just smoosh your lips together to get even coverage albeit sheerer. Don’t expect liquid lipstick-level of longevity. With creamy matte formulas, the latter is often sacrificed for comfort.
I’m not the best person to ask if a lipstick is drying. My lips seldom get dry.
The packaging is pretty and very photogenic, but it doesn’t have the heftiness of most lipsticks within its price range. The chrome coating is also thin and can get scratched off easily revealing the flesh-toned plastic base which can look cheap.
This product is worth it if you find a unique shade you really like, you’re a big fan of Rihanna, and/or you want to support brands that advocate diversity. Otherwise, you’re not missing much. If you prefer products that offer value for money and are eyeing dupable colors like MaDamn, Shawty, Spanked, or Griselda, there are a lot of cheaper alternatives with the same/ better quality and pigmentation.
