No-Buy 2019 | February and March Update

I did well with my No Buy Challenge in the first quarter of 2019. I should’ve just called it Replacement Only Low Buy.

I bought a total of 7 items. Two (2) of which I already shared in my January No-Buy Update post. The other 5 are:

  1. Muji Peelable Cotton Pads (Feb – PHP 395)
    — It’s expensive, I know, but each pad is peelable in 4 cotton sheets which I further cut in half. It has already been 3 months since I bought it and there’s still half of it left.
  2. MAC Matte Lipstick in Marrakesh (March – PHP 1,100)
    — I bought this to replace my used up MAC Chili. I still have around 20 lipsticks left which makes this purchase hard to justify, but I’m giving myself a pass because Chili is the only burnt orange red I have, and a color I prefer not to live without.
    — I like Marrakesh more than Chili though. It’s more muted and less orange.
  3. Innisfree Skinny Fixercara (March – GIFT)
    — LOVE THIS. It can keep my lashes curled all day.
  4. COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid (March)
    — Replacement for Alba Botanica AcneDote Deep Clean Astringent (2% Salicylic Acid).
    — I’m disappointed that the version I got has less than 4% Betaine Salicylate. Not as effective as AcneDote.
  5. COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream (March)
    — Replacement for Dear Klairs Fresh Juiced Vitam E Mask and in anticipation of using up Lixir Skin Universal Emulsion
    — I decided to start using COSRX before finishing Lixir Skin when I found out that the former can’t be used near the eyes. I don’t currently own a separate cream for the eye area.
    — Total spent for COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid and COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream is PHP 2,200.

Running totals as of March 31, 2019:

Ratio of forgone to acquired items is 5.4 to 1.

  • Amount spent on Makeup and Skincare Php 5,019 (around $95). I deposited the same amount in my savings account.
  • Acquired (Gifts/Purchases) – 7
  • Emptied – 17
  • Gave Away / Tossed – 20
  • Expired – 1

I am finding the 2nd quarter of the year a huge struggle. I am not able to identify my shopping triggers this time, but I’m keeping a journal now.
