Makeup and Skincare Low-Buy 2018 – 3rd Quarter Update

I wish I had been more prolific in blogging about my makeup and skincare low-buy efforts. Good thing I was diligent in listing down everything (see photos; click to enlarge). My running totals for the year, as of October 31: Gifts / Purchases = 81 Empties /  Expired and Tossed Products = 126 I regret not getting the running total every month-end. That could’ve discouraged more purchases. My ratio of deductions to additions is — 1.5 : 1. I also noticed a downward trend in the number of my purchases as months go by. In October, I was finally successful…

Purge Pile 2018 – Vol. 1

Semi-regularly, I go through my vanity to look for stuff to give away so they don’t go expired with me. Unfortunately, I found 4 products that went bad. It could be hard to believe but I loved all of them. This is the reality of buying more than you need; You could end up with many things going bad if you’re not on top of shelf lives and expiration dates. The Face Shop Miracle Finish Long-lasting CC Cushion | V205 Dark Beige This is one of the face bases that got me a lot of compliments. It’s skin-like, semi-dewy, diffuses pores,…

Toss or Keep: MAC Sin, Inglot 412, MAC D for Danger, and Estee Lauder Commanding

I’ll give Marie Kondo a run for her money once my book comes out titled The Life-Changing Magic of Using The Candy Crush Technique in Letting Go of Lipsticks. The Candy Crush Technique is when you group lipsticks by color and wait for them to explode and choose JUST ONE lipstick from each group. My red lipstick destashing project is on-going, and so far, I’ve found 2 pairs of lipsticks that have the same-ish color. Inglot 412 and MAC D for Danger Can you tell them apart? The swatches on the back of my hand look slightly different with MAC D for Danger looking a tad brighter…

Toss or Keep: L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Foundation Review + Comparison Swatches

Project Toss or Keep — where I would use one foundation for most of the month and decide if I would toss or keep it. I was looking to replace my L’Oreal Lucent Magique when I first saw the True Match Super-Blendable line. Unfortunately, I didn’t match with any of their “W” colors. The sales assistant (SA) almost forced me to settle with W4 instead. To be fair, it was a good recommendation since W4 was indeed the closest match out of all available shades. However, I’m really particular about getting the right undertone when it comes to foundations. Color A few weeks after…

Toss or Keep: BECCA Luminous Skin Colour Review + Other Foundations I’m Keeping

Project Toss or Keep — where I would use one foundation for most of the month and decide if I would toss or keep it. I kind of cheated when I chose BECCA to kick off this series. I started with something easy for motivation. I already tried letting go of this foundation last year just because of the scent–like old school makeup. I decided to hold on to it again and found a way to make it work by setting it with a heavily scented finishing powder that I like. Based on reviews, most people don’t seem to be bothered by the scent at all,…
