Sun Protection Week: Day 1 – I Don’t Think I Need To Use A Separate Sunscreen

Welcome to Sun Protection Week. I’m using “week” very loosely here because I probably won’t be able to sustain seven consecutive days of writing. To be honest, I am very confused by whether I need to use a separate sunscreen when my moisturizer or foundation already has SPF. This should’ve been a no brainer. Most of the dermatologist-written articles I’ve read seem consistent in saying that I need to put on sunscreen in addition to any other face base that already has sun protection. But seriously, if you’re as oily as I am, doing the sunscreen + face base combo…

Too Cool For School Blending BB Cream

Too Cool For School Blending Cream BB Review

Please note that I only have a sample packet of the Too Cool For School’s Blending Cream BB and I’ve only used the product for 3 consecutive days. With each use, I applied the product right after toweling my face dry, without a primer underneath. I haven’t seen any other swirly bb cream before. I also haven’t seen any other bb cream that doesn’t have SPF. When I checked the website, titanium dioxide was high up on the ingredients list. But there was no mention of how much the SPF rating is. Here’s a photo of a full-size bottle taken from…

Avon Skin Goodness BB Cream Review and Swatches

Avon Skin Goodness BB Cream Review and Swatches

7 years ago, in a Skin Food store, I sampled what I now realize is the first BB cream I’ve ever tried. I didn’t like it because there wasn’t a shade that matched me and it was so hard to spread out. They say BB creams were initially made to protect skin after undergoing a laser procedure. That makes a lot of sense because BB creams, particularly the earlier releases, form a layer of product similar to a diaper rash cream. Since there is no certifying body that qualifies which tinted face cream should or should not be labeled as…

Kanebo Freshel Moist Lift Mineral BB Cream

Kanebo Freshel Moist Lift Mineral BB Cream Review

I am disappointed by the lack of google-able information on Kanebo Freshel Moist Lift Mineral BB Cream. I couldn’t find the ingredients list aside from a vague blurb in the kanebo.sg website. Moisture Ingredients [Yeast extract] will soften the skin that hardens from dryness. Penetrating [Adhesive Collagen] and [Double hyaluronic acid] sinks deeply and quickly into the skin. To be honest, “yeast” and “adhesive” doesn’t sound enticing to me. This product has SPF 23 PA++ as stated on the website. Unlike most BB creams, this doesn’t have strong ashy grey tones. To all my light-medium yellow-olive ladies out there, this might be…

Shiseido Sun Protection Stick Foundation Emptied and Revisited

I already talked about this sun stick last year so this won’t take very long. Consider this post an ode to my favorite x-in-one product of all time. Imagine this product as food and then picture me licking the plate clean.  That’s how I imagined myself when I gobbled it down to the very last gram. Here’s a photo taken days before: Incidentally, a lovely person stumbled upon my review and she e-mailed me her questions about it. Hello Rae, My name is Kate and I recently read your review of the Shiseido Sun Protection Stick Foundation. I love how…

Nature's Gate Aqua Block SPF 50 Review

Nature’s Gate Aqua Block SPF 50 Review

If you love water sports and swimming under the sun, this is the sunblock for you. I discovered Nature’s Gate Aqua Block during my chemical phobia days. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it at Healthy Options because it says Very Water Resistant on the package. I was going to Boracay at the time and I knew we were going to do a lot of water activities. That was mid-2009. Fast forward to 2012 and this remains to be my favorite sunblock for water + sun activities. I made a mistake of using sunblock-that-must-not-be-named last year and I…
