MAC Marrakesh, BLK Totally, Happy Skin Hot Stuff, Happy Skin Scene Stealer

Red Lipstick Inventory + Swatches | MAC Marrakesh, BLK Totally, Happy Skin Hot Stuff, and Happy Skin Scene Stealer

July was a test of resisting lipstick sales and FOMO — and I passed. I deleted ALL shopping apps from my phone and unfollowed (or muted) brands on Instagram. Whenever I feel tempted to shop, I take my lipsticks out and swatch them to remind me of what I have. Here are all my red lipsticks and brief reviews for each (click here for my Foundation and Concealer matches): MAC Matte Lipstick in Marrakesh MAC describes this shade as an intense orange brown. On me it looks like a medium-deep brick red (orange brown red?). Maybe the green tones in…

MAC Chili, Chili x Toasted Brown, Maybelline Toasted Brown

MAC Chili x Maybelline Toasted Brown | How I kept myself from buying MAC Marrakesh

It was love at first sight when I saw a swatch of MAC Marrakesh online. I thought it was the perfect burnt terracotta orange red brown shade. I wanted Marrakesh so much, I thought it’s gonna be the makeup item to break my No Buy rule of “replacements only”. I still had Chili, a matte lipstick in the same color family, but less brown, more orange, and much brighter. The latter is why I don’t pick it up as much — I wish it was more muted. So I layered Maybelline Toasted Brown over Chili to mute it down. It’s…

Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink in 45 Escapist | Review and Swatches

The Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink line is a game-changer. They are the most long-lasting, relatively comfortable matte liquid lipsticks I have tried. A friend sent me two shades as a gift. One of them is Escapist (45), a blackened bluish red. I love the color against my light-medium olive skin with strong yellow undertones. Note: All of the photos shown below were taken at the end of a workday when I had a meal, 2 coffee drinks, and several trips to the water station. The lipstick feels very tacky upon initial application. It is opaque and there’s no need…

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Lipstick

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle in Freckle Fiesta | Review and Swatches

Finally, I own something by Fenty Beauty! Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle in Freckle Fiesta was my last purchase in 2017. I love Riri but I didn’t want to buy anything from Fenty Beauty just because Rih (close kame!?) has her name on it. I waited for her to come out with a matte lipstick in a relatively wearable shade I like. Color Freckle Fiesta is a medium terracotta-toned orange. The color is more vibrant than I thought it would be but nowhere near as bright as MAC Lady Danger. It’s still somewhat muted. Formula The lipstick is full-coverage, lightweight, and has…

Lipz Diva Silky Matte Lipstick in Lucky Review and Swatches

One of my recent most used lipsticks is Lipz Diva Silky Matte Liquid Lipstick in Lucky. I love the formula! It dries down matte and sets completely. This is one of the more comfortable and lightweight matte liquid lipsticks I’ve tried (note, however, that I generally like matte liquid lipsticks). The consistency is thin and it moves with the lips once it dries, if that makes sense. It doesn’t transfer on mugs / cups unless you’re drinking a fatty coffee or hot chocolate or anything topped with whipped cream. It remains presentable after non-greasy meal and it doesn’t get tacky…

Dark Red Lipstick Collection

MAC Sin, Inglot 412, MAC D for Danger, and Estee Lauder Commanding | Toss or Keep

I’ll give Marie Kondo a run for her money once my book comes out titled The Life-Changing Magic of Using The Candy Crush Technique in Letting Go of Lipsticks. The Candy Crush Technique is when you group lipsticks by color and choose to keep ONE lipstick from each group. My red lipstick destashing project is on-going, and so far, I’ve found 2 pairs of lipsticks that have the same-ish color. Inglot 412 and MAC D for Danger Can you tell them apart? The swatches on the back of my hand look slightly different with MAC D for Danger looking a tad brighter and more berry-toned. On…
