No-Buy 2019 | February and March Update

I did well with my No Buy Challenge in the first quarter of 2019. I should’ve just called it Replacement Only Low Buy. I bought a total of 7 items. Two (2) of which I already shared in my January No-Buy Update post. The other 5 are: Muji Peelable Cotton Pads (Feb – PHP 395)— It’s expensive, I know, but each pad is peelable in 4 cotton sheets which I further cut in half. It has already been 3 months since I bought it and there’s still half of it left. MAC Matte Lipstick in Marrakesh (March – PHP 1,100)—…

No-Buy 2019 | January Update

I’m doing good with my replacement only no-buy. I was so tempted but I am able to resist getting Kosas Tinted Face Oil. I make my own by mixing a rice grain-sized amount of Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer with a drop of Kiehl’s Daily Recovery Concentrate (Oil) to scratch the itch. I bought 2 skincare products this month to replace what I used up: Timeless Vitamin C Serum to replace Purito Vitamin C Serum (emptied), The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (gave away), and The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin (gave away) — P 1,235.00 Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (100 ml) to replace…

No-Buy 2019 and Makeup and Skincare Low-Buy 2018 Update

I think my 2018 makeup and skincare low-buy challenge went well. I emptied (or let go of) 135 beauty products, but acquired 85 — a ratio of 1.6 : 1. Not bad. I did better towards the end of the year which made me feel confident to attempt a modified No-Buy for 2019, which will now include clothes and shoes (and other non-necessities like fountain pens and ink). Here are my rules: I’m allowed to buy true replacements. For makeup and skincare — if I’m not buying a replacement, I should let go of 3 items (I know, too strict,…

Makeup and Skincare Low-Buy 2018 – 3rd Quarter Update

I wish I had been more prolific in blogging about my makeup and skincare low-buy efforts. Good thing I was diligent in listing down everything (see photos; click to enlarge). My running totals for the year, as of October 31: Gifts / Purchases = 81 Empties /  Expired and Tossed Products = 126 I regret not getting the running total every month-end. That could’ve discouraged more purchases. My ratio of deductions to additions is — 1.5 : 1. I also noticed a downward trend in the number of my purchases as months go by. In October, I was finally successful…

Dark Red Lipstick Collection

MAC Sin, Inglot 412, MAC D for Danger, and Estee Lauder Commanding | Toss or Keep

I’ll give Marie Kondo a run for her money once my book comes out titled The Life-Changing Magic of Using The Candy Crush Technique in Letting Go of Lipsticks. The Candy Crush Technique is when you group lipsticks by color and choose to keep ONE lipstick from each group. My red lipstick destashing project is on-going, and so far, I’ve found 2 pairs of lipsticks that have the same-ish color. Inglot 412 and MAC D for Danger Can you tell them apart? The swatches on the back of my hand look slightly different with MAC D for Danger looking a tad brighter and more berry-toned. On…
